About our kids program

So you have seen the Karate Kid -  how about learning some martial arts that actually work

Too much emphasis is placed on kicking in many systems and children are then given conflicting messages - "you must never use this" - then why am I learning it !

How can any person who has been drilled never to use what they have learnt suddenly when the need arises re-program themselves?

My aim is to teach my students the responsibility of their actions and guided to make individual choices how they use their power but if they are made aware that to use their powers unwisely they should expect consequences and should therefore be prepared to face them.

There is also a need for kids to understand an appropriate use of force, kick or punch some kid who is hassling you in the playground and it may end up with child and parent in the headmaster's office discussing un-Australian behaviour . Wrestle the kid to the ground and subdue him will probably be viewed as kids stuff, however protecting oneself or sibling/friend from a potential abduction will require a more a greater degree of action.

Primativ Warrior is a martial arts system that provide kids with a system that will give them effective but also appropriate self defence skills for their age group whether it be dealing with a bully at school or a serious threat from a potential abductor.

I taught a traditional karate for along time before realizing for the most part it was not delivering kids with skills that they could confidently use in self defence in a timeframe that was practical in this busy world where kids lose interest so quickly. Also although the punch or kick can finish a fight in the playground they are just as likely to land your child and yourself in hot water in the principal's office. By having a big component of wrestling , takedown & ground fighting in our program our kids can subdue an opponent or bully without resorting to punching them unless they really have to.

Many parents especially Mom's are concerned about boxing and the risk of boxing techniques and training which I find surprising when kicks to the head would probably be far more dangerous if they connected but it is just a perception which is outdated. Boxing training and amateur competition is so regulated and safe that far more danger can be found in any of the football codes or even skiing. In NSW kids cannot compete until they are 14 years old and must only compete with people their own age and weight until they are 18 years old.

I still believe in the underlying principals of Budo foundations of respect and humility which traditional martial arts imparts but have felt that the bowing, subservience to senior and master worship is not applicable in a free society and therefore no masters exist in Primativ.

Although traditional karate is not a majority of my program I still use many of the cross body movements because of the benefits in concentration that can be involved. I wrote the following article on the use of traditional karate in developing concentration in kids.

We are  operating a  black belt system for kids . We aim to equip kid's with not only practical self-defence skills (both upright and on the ground) but also  develop leadership skills.
